Abstract: First published in 1993, this is a new revised and substantially expanded edition that evaluates the leading sources of information (other than bibliographies) on Africa South of the Sahara published in English and French, and in a number of other European languages since 1938. It contains 3,600 for the most part annotated entries, covering encyclopaedias, dictionaries, directories, handbooks, atlases and gazetteers, almanacs, yearbooks, topographic reference sources, directories of organizations, as well as biographical and statistical sources. Entirely new sections include a selection of the principal reference sources in the biological and earth sciences, especially on fl ora and fauna, and on biology, habitat, and geology. Each title – most of them personally examined by the compiler – is described and analysed for content. For further details see http://www.hanszell. co.uk/africaguide/index.shtml
