Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup device and optical memory drive unit, which can smoothly perform focusing of the laser beam to a desired layer with a simple configuration also when using a bulk type recording medium. SOLUTION: The optical pickup device has: a semiconductor laser 101; an objective lens 109 which makes a laser beam emitted from the semiconductor laser 101 converged on an optical disk 10; an objective lens actuator 132 which drives the objective lens 109; a photodetector 111 which has a sensor pattern for creating a focus-error signal while receiving laser beam reflected by the optical disk 10; and an actuator which displaces the photodetector 111 in the direction perpendicular to a light-receiving surface according to a control signal. If the optical detector 111 is displaced, the working distance of the objective 109 changes, and the recording light and reproduction light are drawn in a desired layer. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
