Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide means of efficiently checking optical disks to be mounted on an optical disk library apparatus.SOLUTION: An optical disk library apparatus comprises an optical disk storage for storing a plurality of optical disks, a plurality of recording/reproducing units for recording and reproducing onto and from optical disks, a carrying mechanism for carrying optical disks between the optical disk storage and the recording/reproducing units, a library controller for controlling the optical disk library apparatus, and an interface for transmitting and receiving data and commands to and from superior devices. The library controller so controls the recording/reproducing units as to check a prescribed checkup area or areas of optical disks having recorded data according to the conditions of data recording and stores acquired values from the checkup.
