Abstract: A liquid crystal element control section (9) of an optical disc apparatus includes a memory (29) for storing a first information relating to a relationship between a driving voltage to be applied to a liquid crystal element when an optimal reproduced signal is obtained, and the ambient temperature of the liquid crystal element, and a second information concerning a relationship between a response time characteristic of the liquid crystal element and the temperature, a driving voltage determination section (30) for measuring a response time of the liquid crystal element at a predetermined time and for determining a drive voltage to be applied to the liquid crystal element, in which the influence of a temperature variation on the basis of the determined response time and the first and second information is corrected, and a liquid crystal element control circuit (31) for driving the liquid crystals lements with the drive voltage, which was determined by the driving voltage determining section (30).

TL;DR: In this article, the amplitude value (FE1) of a focusing error signal detected immediately after a focal position leaves any given first recording layer when displacing an objective lens in the direction of focusing in a particular spherical aberration (SAn), and the amplitude values (FE2) of the focusing error signals detected just prior to passing through the focal position of any given second recording layer that is separate from the first recording layers are measured, the amplitude ratio (FE 1/FE 2) of amplitude values FE1 to FE2 is calculated, the difference (S An-
