Abstract: In this paper we introduce a new architecture, called Open Collaborative Grid Services Architecture (OCGSA); that serves as the building block for designing collaborative services within Grids. The framework is based on the Open Grid Services Architecture (OGSA) that combines aspects of Grids with Web services. Using OGSA enables users to access advanced Grid features such as lifetime management, notification, and security that are otherwise not available in Web services. Our framework provides high-level Grid services that can be integrated within future collaborative applications, hence making them automatically Grid aware. Besides the definition of such useful advanced collaborative services, we use this architecture to validate the approach taken in OGSA and verify whether necessary collaborative services can be implemented with the help of OGSA. Use of these services will also enable the creation of peer-to-peer collaboative infrastructures.

- 19 Apr 2004
TL;DR: This work develops a generic platform of CSCL components and proposes a means that could make this adjustment possible due to the high degree of genericity that this library component is endowed with by being based on the generic programming paradigm.

- 01 Jan 2007
TL;DR: The essential issue here is how to design a platform that can be used for real, long-term, complex collaborative problem-solving situations and which enables the instructor to both analyze group interaction effectively and provide an adequate support when needed.

The anatomy of the grid: enabling scalable virtual organizations
Ian Foster
- 28 Aug 2001
TL;DR: The term "the Grid" was coined in the mid-1990s to denote a proposed distributed computing infrastructure for advanced science and engineering but the term has also been conflated, at least in popular perception, to embrace everything from advanced networking to artificial intelligence.

Ian Foster,Carl Kesselman,Jeffrey M. Nick,Steven Tuecke +3 more
- 01 Jan 2002
TL;DR: This presentation complements an earlier foundational article, “The Anatomy of the Grid,” by describing how Grid mechanisms can implement a service-oriented architecture, explaining how Grid functionality can be incorporated into a Web services framework, and illustrating how the architecture can be applied within commercial computing as a basis for distributed system integration.
