Towards a global understanding of the drivers of marine and terrestrial biodiversity.
Tyler O. Gagne,Gabriel Reygondeau,Clinton N. Jenkins,Joseph O. Sexton,Steven J. Bograd,Elliott L. Hazen,Kyle S. Van Houtan,Kyle S. Van Houtan +7 more
TL;DR: It is found terrestrial diversity is better predicted by the available environmental drivers than is marine diversity, and that marine diversity can be predicted with a smaller set of variables.

Forest canopy recovery from the 1938 hurricane and subsequent salvage damage measured with airborne LiDAR
John F. Weishampel,Jason B. Drake,Jason B. Drake,Amanda Cooper,J. Bryan Blair,Michelle Hofton +5 more
TL;DR: This paper analyzed large-footprint LiDAR, from the Prospect Hill tract at Harvard Forest in central Massachusetts, to assess whether damage to the forest structure from the hurricane and subsequent timber extraction could be discerned after ∼ 65 years.

Observations on the flight patterns and foraging behaviour of Tasmanian bats
MG O'Neill,RJ Taylor +1 more
TL;DR: There is a broad agreement between the flight patterns observed and the relative shape of the wing of each species.

The restorative effects of campus landscape biodiversity: Assessing visual and auditory perceptions among university students
Jaeyoung Ha,Hyung Jin Kim +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of multisensory (visual and auditory) stimuli on mental restoration has been studied, and the results indicated that neither the level of biodiversity nor natural sound had a significant effect on restorative and mood states.

Effects of uneven-aged silviculture on the stand structure, species composition, and economic returns of loblolly pine stands
TL;DR: In this article, the consequences of various uneven-aged management regimes are predicted with the SouthPro simulator with the Pinus taeda L (L loblolly pine) stands, and the results indicate that target distributions for pines with residual merchantable basal areas of ≈12.5 m 2 ǫ −1, maximum diameters of ca. 40 cm, and q -ratios of 1.2 −1.25 for 2.5 cm DBH classes are likely to provide high economic returns on good sites when combined with hardwood control.

Population Ecology of Some Warblers of Northeastern Coniferous Forests
TL;DR: The role of biotic factors in the determination of population densities and population fluctuation of the rice stem borer is considered.

A Theoretical Ecological Model of Size Distributions Among Species of Animals
TL;DR: It is suggested that if a really complete faunistic list for a given biotope could be constructed the size distribution by species would approximate the form given by the model.

- 01 Nov 1957
TL;DR: In el acto de su recepcion como academico de la Real Academia de Ciencias y Artes de Barcelona, Margalef leida la Memoria leida por Ramon Margalfe as mentioned in this paper.
Beryllium inhibition of regeneration. I. Morphological effects of beryllium on amputated fore limbs of larval Amblystoma
TL;DR: It is surprising that in regeneration studies more use has not been made of chemical agents which have known effects in disengaging developmental processes in embryos, particularly since regenerating amphibian limb and tail tissues.
