Abstract: La principale difficulte de l'implementation d'un cadastre coordonne est le statut de la preuve mathematique par rapport a la position des bornes originales pour determiner la position la plus probable d'une limite. En 1962, l'Afrique du Sud a reconnu legalement les principes sous-tendant un cadastre mathematique en ce que l'arpenteur general pouvait assigner des valeurs de coordonnees officielles a un coin de parcelle particulier. Toutefois, ce fut tres rarement applique, meme si la proportion des parcelles cadastrales qui sont arpentees sur un systeme de coordonnees integre est probablement superieure par rapport a la plupart des autres pays. Une raison en est que les consequences de l'assignation d'un poids superieur a la preuve mathematique plutot qu'aux positions physiques des bornes originales ont donne lieu a plusieurs affaires judiciaires a la fin du 19 e siecle et au debut du 20 e siecle. En Afrique du Sud, le principe de l'exclusivite peut etre applique aux positions des bornes retablies. Lorsqu 'un differend sur une limite douteuse est resolu, elle peut probablement devenir etablie legalement et sa position devient alors indefectible, Toutefois, tout comme pour un titre, les coordonnees attribuees a cette position n'affirment que la position du coin de la parcelle. Elles ne la constituent pas, bien que de nos jours les coordonnees soient considerees comme une tres forte preuve de la position du coin de la parcelle. Cependant, les coordonnees peuvent etre rejetees comme preuve si elles sont erronees.
