TL;DR: In this paper, a computer-implemented method of tamper-protecting computer program code is presented, which includes: obtaining an input representation of the program code; identifying a conditional program statement for causing a data processing system to selectively execute one of at least a first and a second sets of program statements when said computer program is executed by a Data Processing System; replacing the identified conditional program statements with a set of transformed program statements to obtain obfuscated program code.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method of tamper-protecting computer program code. The method comprises: obtaining an input representation of the computer program code; identifying a conditional program statement for causing a data processing system to selectively execute one of at least a first and a second sets of program statements when said computer program is executed by a data processing system; replacing said identified conditional program statement and the first and second sets of program statements with a set of transformed program statements to obtain obfuscated program code, wherein the set of transformed program statements is adapted to cause the data processing system to execute at least a part of each of the transformed program statements when said computer program is executed by the data processing system.

Electronic message analysis for malware detection
Ashar Aziz,Henry Uyeno,Jay Manni,Amin Sukhera,Stuart Staniford +4 more
- 23 Feb 2012
TL;DR: In this paper, an electronic message is analyzed for malware contained in the message and the analysis may include replaying the suspicious URL in a virtual environment which simulates the intended computing device to receive the electronic message, if the replayed URL is determined to be malicious, the malicious URL is added to a black list which is updated throughout the computer system.

Network-Based Binary File Extraction and Analysis for Malware Detection
Jayaraman Manni,Ashar Aziz,Fengmin Gong,Upendran Loganathan,Amin Sukhera +4 more
- 30 Sep 2009
TL;DR: In this paper, a system and method for network-based file analysis for malware detection is described, where a binary file including the binary packet is extracted from the network content and determined whether the extracted binary file is detected to be malware.

Systems and Methods for Scheduling Analysis of Network Content for Malware
Stuart Staniford,Ashar Aziz +1 more
- 24 Jun 2013
TL;DR: In this paper, a method for detecting malicious network content comprises inspecting one or more packets of network content, identifying a suspicious characteristic of the network contents, determining a score related to a probability that the network content includes malicious network contents based on at least the suspicious characteristic, identifying the content as suspicious if the score satisfies a threshold value, executing a virtual machine to process the suspicious network content and analyzing a response of the virtual machine.

Optimized resource allocation for virtual machines within a malware content detection system
Osman Abdoul Ismael
- 10 May 2013
TL;DR: In this article, a virtual machine instance provides a first virtual operating environment while the second VM instance is adapted to share the resources allocated to the first VM instance, which is further adapted to allocate additional resources upon conducting Copy-On Write operation.

- 09 Jun 2004
TL;DR: Results indicate that even relatively large watermarks can be embedded into programs at modest cost and error-correcting and tamper-proofing techniques can be used to make path-based watermarks resilient against a wide variety of attacks.
Software Tamper Resistance: Obstructing Static Analysis of Programs
Chenxi Wang,Jonathan Hill,John C. Knight,Jack W. Davidson +3 more
- 12 May 2000
TL;DR: A theoretical result is presented which shows that a precise analysis of the transformed program, in the general case, is NP-hard and the applicability of the techniques is demonstrated with empirical results.
