Abstract: Normal modes are used to describe the different vibrational motions in molecules. Each mode can be characterized by a different type of motion and each mode has a certain symmetry associated with it. Group theory is a useful tool in order to determine what symmetries the normal modes contain and predict if these modes are IR and/or Raman active. Consequently, IR and Raman spectroscopy is often used for vibrational spectra.

Source Ranging Using Ensemble Convolutional Networks in the Direct Zone of Deep Water
TL;DR: Using deep convolutional neural networks as primary learners and a deep neural network as meta-learner, source ranging is solved as a regression problem with the ensemble learning method and indicates that in the direct zone of deep water, signals received by a very deep receiver can be used to estimate the range of underwater sound source.

Broadening of the drumhead-mode spectrum due to in-plane thermal fluctuations of two-dimensional trapped ion crystals in a Penning trap
Athreya Shankar,Chen Tang,M. Affolter,Kevin Gilmore,Kevin Gilmore,Daniel H. E. Dubin,Scott Parker,Murray Holland,John J. Bollinger +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors theoretically and numerically investigated the in-plane motion of two-dimensional ion crystals stored in Penning traps and found that the thermal fluctuations in the inplane positions of ions, described by normal modes whose potential energy is several hundred times larger than their kinetic energy, strongly contribute to the spectral broadening of the transverse drumhead motion.

Learning Integrable Dynamics with Action-Angle Networks
TL;DR: Action-Angle Networks as discussed by the authors learn a nonlinear transformation from input coordinates to the action-angle space, where evolution of the system is linear, making them extremely efficient at modelling the dynamics of integrable physical systems.
