Abstract: This report identifies and describes emerging technologies likely to have a large impact over the coming five years in higher education around the world. It highlights six emerging technologies or practices that are likely to enter mainstream use within three adoption horizons (one year or less; two to three years; four to five years) over the next five years. Key trends and challenges that will affect current practice over the same period frame these discussions. The six technologies featured include: massively open online courses (MOOCs) and tablet computing on the near-term horizon; games and gamification, and the further refinement of learning analytics on the mid-term horizon; and 3D printing and wearable technology on the far-term horizon.

The usability of augmented reality in open and distance learning systems: A qualitative Delphi study
TL;DR: The findings of this study are significant in shedding light to the enrichment, diversification and increased interaction of open and distance learning environments in accordance with universal design principles, bringing a new perspective to how a different technology convergence may be conducted, providing further accessibility.
Evaluating professional development for blended learning in higher education: a synthesis of qualitative evidence
TL;DR: In this paper , a systematic review of the literature on professional development for blended learning in higher education institutions is presented, where fourteen empirical research articles were withheld and analyzed qualitatively using an inductive coding framework inspired by the five levels of evaluation by Guskey, T. R. (2000).
