Abstract: The NCCN Guidelines for Head and Neck Cancers address tumors arising in the oral cavity (including mucosal lip), pharynx, larynx, and paranasal sinuses. Occult primary cancer, salivary gland cancer, and mucosal melanoma (MM) are also addressed. The specific site of disease, stage, and pathologic findings guide treatment (eg, the appropriate surgical procedure, radiation targets, dose and fractionation of radiation, indications for systemic therapy). The NCCN Head and Neck Cancers Panel meets at least annually to review comments from reviewers within their institutions, examine relevant new data from publications and abstracts, and reevaluate and update their recommendations. These NCCN Guidelines Insights summarize the panel's most recent recommendations regarding management of HPV-positive oropharynx cancer and ongoing research in this area.

Combination immunochemotherapy for recurrent or metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma: a systematic review and meta-analysis
TL;DR: In this article , the authors evaluated the efficacy and safety of combination immunochemotherapy regimens for the treatment of recurrent or metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (R/M HNSCC).
Aqueous Extract of Sparganii Rhizoma and Curcumae Rhizoma Induces Apoptosis and Inhibits Migration in Human Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma
TL;DR: In this article , the authors found that SRCR induced death in human oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) cells but not in normal cells (HGF-1) cells.
Pareto-Optimized Non-Negative Matrix Factorization Approach to the Cleaning of Alaryngeal Speech Signals
Rytis Maskeliūnas,Robertas Damaševičius,Audrius Kulikajevas,Kipras Pribuišis,Nora Ulozaitė-Stanienė,Virgilijus Uloza +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper , a Pareto-optimized deep learning with non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) was proposed to effectively reduce noise in impaired speech signals while preserving the quality of the desired speech.

The efficacy and safety of adding PD-1 blockade to induction chemotherapy and concurrent chemoradiotherapy (IC-CCRT) for locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma: an observational, propensity score-matched analysis
Ya-Nan Jin,Meng-Yun Qiang,Ying Wang,Yu-Jing Lin,Ren-Wei Jiang,Wangjian Zhang,Hong-Yu Zhang,Ji-Jin Yao +7 more
TL;DR: This observational study found that adding PD-1 blockade to standard treatment (chemotherapy and radiation) for locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma significantly improved disease-free survival, tumor regression, and Epstein-Barr virus DNA clearance with comparable toxicity.

Analysis of Prognostic Factors For External Auditory Canal Carcinoma: A 22-Year Experience.
TL;DR: In this article , the prognostic factors and treatment outcomes in patients with the external auditory canal (EAC) squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) were investigated, and the primary endpoints were overall survival (OS) and disease-specific survival (DSS).

TL;DR: Tumor HPV status is a strong and independent prognostic factor for survival among patients with oropharyngeal cancer and the risk of death significantly increased with each additional pack-year of tobacco smoking.

TL;DR: In this article, the prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in oropharyngeal cancer was determined for all 271 oropharygeal cancers (1984-2004) collected by the three population-based cancer registries in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Residual Tissue Repositories Program.

TL;DR: It is suggested that HPV-positive oropharyngeal cancers comprise a distinct molecular, clinical, and pathologic disease entity that is likely causally associated with HPV infection and that has a markedly improved prognosis.

Postoperative concurrent radiotherapy and chemotherapy for high-risk squamous-cell carcinoma of the head and neck.
Jay S. Cooper,Thomas F. Pajak,Arlene A. Forastiere,John R. Jacobs,Bruce H. Campbell,Scott Saxman,Julie A. Kish,Harold Kim,Anthony J. Cmelak,Marvin Rotman,Mitchell Machtay,John F. Ensley,K.S.Clifford Chao,Christopher J. Schultz,Nancy M. Lee,Karen K. Fu +15 more
TL;DR: Among high-risk patients with resected head and neck cancer, concurrent postoperative chemotherapy and radiotherapy significantly improve the rates of local and regional control and disease-free survival, however, the combined treatment is associated with a substantial increase in adverse effects.
