Abstract: The NCCN Guidelines for Head and Neck Cancers address tumors arising in the oral cavity (including mucosal lip), pharynx, larynx, and paranasal sinuses. Occult primary cancer, salivary gland cancer, and mucosal melanoma (MM) are also addressed. The specific site of disease, stage, and pathologic findings guide treatment (eg, the appropriate surgical procedure, radiation targets, dose and fractionation of radiation, indications for systemic therapy). The NCCN Head and Neck Cancers Panel meets at least annually to review comments from reviewers within their institutions, examine relevant new data from publications and abstracts, and reevaluate and update their recommendations. These NCCN Guidelines Insights summarize the panel's most recent recommendations regarding management of HPV-positive oropharynx cancer and ongoing research in this area.

Reliability of a Multidisciplinary Multiparametric Approach in the Surgical Planning of Laryngeal Squamous Cell Carcinomas: A Retrospective Observational Study
Davide Rizzo,Claudia Crescio,Pierangela Tramaloni,Laura Maria De Luca,Nicola Turra,Alessandra Mangia,Paola Crivelli,Chiara R. Tiana,Alberto Fara,Antonio Cossu,M. Profili,Mariano Scaglione,Francesco Bussu +12 more
TL;DR: The multidisciplinary approach is fundamental in the definition of the primary lesion in LSCC, in particular in order to safely perform surgical preservation of laryngeal function, which is associated with a higher larynGEctomy-free survival than irradiation but to a lower salvageability in case of recurrence.
Association of Unilateral Radiotherapy With Contralateral Lymph Node Failure Among Patients With Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Tonsil
TL;DR: In this article , a systematic review and meta-analysis of 17 studies with 1487 unique patients with tonsil cancer who received ipsilateral neck radiotherapy, the rate of contralateral nodal failure was 2%.
A deep learning and radiomics fusion model based on contrast-enhanced computer tomography improves preoperative identification of cervical lymph node metastasis of oral squamous cell carcinoma.
Zhen Chen,Yao Yu,Shuo Liu,Wen Du,Leihao Hu,Congwei Wang,Jiaqi Li,Jianbo Liu,Wenbo Zhang,Xin Peng +9 more
TL;DR: A fusion model combining radiomics and deep learning approaches outperformed other single-technique models and showed great potential to accurately predict cervical LNM in patients with OSCC.

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors performed a paired analysis to compare the therapeutic effect between the induction chemotherapy-based organ-preservation approach and immediate total laryngectomy in hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma patients requiring total LCT.

Novel Prognostic Model Construction of Tongue Squamous Cell Carcinoma Based on Apigenin-Associated Genes
Jianfei Lai,Chen Fang,Guohua Zhang,Chao Shi,Feng Yu,Weiguo Gu,Jianxiong Deng,Jingbiao Xu,Chaoxing Liu,Feng Qiu +9 more
- 06 Feb 2024
TL;DR: The research suggested the inhibition effect of API on TSCC cells and provided a novel prognostic model combined with therapeutic factors that can guide the prognosis of TSCC and clinical decision-making in TSCC.

TL;DR: Tumor HPV status is a strong and independent prognostic factor for survival among patients with oropharyngeal cancer and the risk of death significantly increased with each additional pack-year of tobacco smoking.

TL;DR: In this article, the prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in oropharyngeal cancer was determined for all 271 oropharygeal cancers (1984-2004) collected by the three population-based cancer registries in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Residual Tissue Repositories Program.
Evidence for a Causal Association Between Human Papillomavirus and a Subset of Head and Neck Cancers

TL;DR: It is suggested that HPV-positive oropharyngeal cancers comprise a distinct molecular, clinical, and pathologic disease entity that is likely causally associated with HPV infection and that has a markedly improved prognosis.

Postoperative concurrent radiotherapy and chemotherapy for high-risk squamous-cell carcinoma of the head and neck.
Jay S. Cooper,Thomas F. Pajak,Arlene A. Forastiere,John R. Jacobs,Bruce H. Campbell,Scott Saxman,Julie A. Kish,Harold Kim,Anthony J. Cmelak,Marvin Rotman,Mitchell Machtay,John F. Ensley,K.S.Clifford Chao,Christopher J. Schultz,Nancy M. Lee,Karen K. Fu +15 more
TL;DR: Among high-risk patients with resected head and neck cancer, concurrent postoperative chemotherapy and radiotherapy significantly improve the rates of local and regional control and disease-free survival, however, the combined treatment is associated with a substantial increase in adverse effects.
