TL;DR: The NCCN Guidelines Insights summarize the panel's most recent recommendations regarding management of HPV-positive oropharynx cancer and ongoing research in this area.

Abstract: The NCCN Guidelines for Head and Neck Cancers address tumors arising in the oral cavity (including mucosal lip), pharynx, larynx, and paranasal sinuses. Occult primary cancer, salivary gland cancer, and mucosal melanoma (MM) are also addressed. The specific site of disease, stage, and pathologic findings guide treatment (eg, the appropriate surgical procedure, radiation targets, dose and fractionation of radiation, indications for systemic therapy). The NCCN Head and Neck Cancers Panel meets at least annually to review comments from reviewers within their institutions, examine relevant new data from publications and abstracts, and reevaluate and update their recommendations. These NCCN Guidelines Insights summarize the panel's most recent recommendations regarding management of HPV-positive oropharynx cancer and ongoing research in this area.

TL;DR: In this article , the most relevant PET/CT criteria for solid and non-solid [18 F]FDG-avid tumors were discussed. But, the authors did not consider the impact of the proposed criteria on daily clinical practice.

TL;DR: Proton therapy, with its unique physical characteristics, can deliver less dose to normal tissues, resulting in fewer side effects as mentioned in this paper, but is associated with significant short and long-term side effects.

Assessment of Response to Different Induction Chemotherapy Regimens in Locally Advanced Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma
01 Feb 2023
TL;DR: In this article , the authors compared the short-term treatment response and survival of the three induction chemotherapy (IC) regimens, including gemcitabine and cisplatin (GP), docetaxel and cis-platin(TP), and docetsaxel, cisplin, and fluoropyrimidines (TPF), in locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (LANPC) patients.

Dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI predicts PTEN protein expression which can function as a prognostic measure of progression-free survival in NPC patients
Gang Wu,Weiyuan Huang,Junnv Xu,Wenzhu Li,Yu Wu,Qianyu Yang,Kun Liu,Mingyue Zhu,Priya S. Balasubramanian,Mengsen Li +9 more
TL;DR: DCE parameter evaluation and clinical feature comparison between the PTEN positive and negative groups were performed and correlation between PTEN expression with the PFS and prognosis status using Cox regression for survival analysis were assessed.

TL;DR: Tumor HPV status is a strong and independent prognostic factor for survival among patients with oropharyngeal cancer and the risk of death significantly increased with each additional pack-year of tobacco smoking.

TL;DR: In this article, the prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in oropharyngeal cancer was determined for all 271 oropharygeal cancers (1984-2004) collected by the three population-based cancer registries in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Residual Tissue Repositories Program.

TL;DR: It is suggested that HPV-positive oropharyngeal cancers comprise a distinct molecular, clinical, and pathologic disease entity that is likely causally associated with HPV infection and that has a markedly improved prognosis.
