Abstract: Computational aeroacoustics (CAA) is an important research area which connects aerodynamics and acoustics. This research area involves simulations of flow-induced acoustic noise and can be broadly categorized into three different methodologies based on the approach used for estimating acoustic field. First two methodologies use computed fluid flow information to further calculate acoustic field details using either an acoustic analogy approach or by solving set of perturbation equations.

The acoustic spectrum of axial flow machines
S.E. Wright
- 01 Apr 1975
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared rotor spectra from a variety of axial flow machines and acoustic trends examined, and found that the minimum broad band noise generated by ducted and free field rotors corresponds to laminar and turbulent boundary layer shedding.

Active Control and Drag Optimization for Flow Past a Circular Cylinder
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated computational methods for active control and drag optimization of incompressible viscous flow past cylinders, using the two-dimensional Navier?Stokes equations as the flow model.
Momentum potential theory of energy flux carried by momentum fluctuations
TL;DR: The momentum potential theory of time-stationary fluctuating flows is briefly reviewed and then extended to include energy flux carried by momentum fluctuations in this paper, where the mean energy flux can be expressed as a linear superposition of mean, turbulent, acoustic and thermal components.
The wake of a cylinder performing rotary oscillations
TL;DR: In this paper, the wake of a cylinder performing rotary oscillations around its axis at moderate Reynolds number was studied and it was observed that the structure of the vortex shedding is strongly affected by the forcing parameters.
Linearized perturbed compressible equations for low Mach number aeroacoustics
Jung Hee Seo,Young J. Moon +1 more
TL;DR: The present LPCE ensures grid-independent acoustic solutions by suppressing the generation of perturbed vorticity in the formulation, and is validated for various dipole and quadruple vortex-sound problems at low Mach numbers.
