Abstract: PURPOSE:To detect the overlap of information stored in a storage medium and to efficiently manage information. CONSTITUTION:One file stored in a secondary storage device 6 is read by an information read part 11 and is held by an information holding part 12. The other file is read by the information read part 11 and it is compared with the file held in the information holding part 12. An attribute comparison part 13 compares the attributes (file names, the sizes of the files and geenration/update dates/time) of the both files. A content comparison part compares the contents of the both files. An overlap judgement part 15 compares a matched degree obtained as the result of comparison with a specified value which is previously set on a prescribed value table 17 and judges the overlap of the both files. When the both files are overlapped, an overlap information display part 16 displays the effect.
