Method for extracting the surface impedance of a generic reflective metasurface
J. Smith,Ian R. Hooper,Nathan Clow,Alastair P. Hibbins,S. A. R. Horsley +4 more
TL;DR: Researchers develop a method to extract surface impedance tensor of reflective metasurfaces using reflection coefficients, applicable to experimental and model data, enabling design of spatially graded metasurfaces for controlled scattered field manipulation in various frequency regimes.
Decoupling of antennas with wire metasurface structures: MRI applications
Anna Hurshkainen,Stanislav Glybovski,Irina V. Melchakova,Ingmar J. Voogt,Cornelis A. T. van den Berg,Alexander J.E. Raaijmakers +5 more
- 01 Jun 2016
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of a mushroom-type metasurface on the radiofrequency field distribution inside an MR-scanner was investigated and it was shown that such structures are also applicable to reduce mutual coupling between dipole elements of a body array coil for 7 Tesla MRI (operational frequency equal to 298 MHz).

Negative Index Materials Using Atomic Transitions: Progress and Challenges
Deniz Yavuz,Zachary N. Buckholtz +1 more
- 01 Jan 2018
TL;DR: In this paper, an alternative and complementary approach to constructing negative index materials using atomic transitions of atoms or ions has been proposed, instead of relying on engineered patterns, the idea is to utilize the resonances provided to us by nature.

Fast analysis of spherical metasurfaces using vector wave function expansion
Srikumar Sandeep,Shao Ying Huang +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a quasi-analytical formulation of spherical metasurfaces using Generalized Sheet Transition Conditions (GSTCs) and Vector Wave Function (VWF) expansion is presented.

RCS prediction and optimization for anomalous reflection metasurfaces using Floquet analysis
Matthieu Elineau,Renaud Loison,Stephane Meric,Raphaël Gillard,Pascal Paganini,G. Maze-Merceur,Philippe Pouliguen +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper , a predictive method is built to calculate radar cross-section patterns from supercell Floquet simulation, avoiding dealing with heavy simulations, and the proposed model, the optimization outputs and the general results are exposed in details.

Inhibited Spontaneous Emission in Solid-State Physics and Electronics
TL;DR: If a three-dimensionally periodic dielectric structure has an electromagnetic band gap which overlaps the electronic band edge, then spontaneous emission can be rigorously forbidden.

Nanfang Yu,Patrice Genevet,Patrice Genevet,Mikhail A. Kats,Francesco Aieta,Francesco Aieta,Jean-Philippe Tetienne,Jean-Philippe Tetienne,Federico Capasso,Zeno Gaburro,Zeno Gaburro +10 more
TL;DR: In this article, a two-dimensional array of optical resonators with spatially varying phase response and subwavelength separation can imprint phase discontinuities on propagating light as it traverses the interface between two media.
