Abstract: A classification scheme for multimodal image matching is considered. The scope of the classification is restricted to methods that register data after acquisitions. The classification scheme may be used for any modality; not only for (2-D) projection images and (3-D) tomographic images, but also for other signal modalities that provide spatial insight into function or anatomy, e.g., EEG (electroencephalography) or MEG (magnetoencephalography) and for the real physical patient. The available literature on image matching is discussed and classified. >

A novel magnetic resonance-positive emission image registration based on morphology.
TL;DR: Evaluation showed that sub-voxel accuracy was achieved and the registration process was significantly more rapid, thus this new automated multi-modality registration method is more robust and has high accuracy.

TL;DR: An active contours (snakes) based procedure is developed to automatically, with minimum user intervention, delineate the contour of the vocal folds in each frame of the videostroboscopic image sequence and an affine model is used to parameterize the motion from frame-to-frame.

TL;DR: The proposed 3D registration algorithm provides a simple and fast method for automatic registration of CT and MR image modalities and preliminary results using the algorithm are comparable to those obtained by other techniques.

Finite-element deformable sheet-curve models for registration of breast MR images

- 15 May 2003
TL;DR: A new registration method has been developed using finite-element deformable sheet-curve models to accurately register MR breast images for extraction of glandular tissue and the experimental results demonstrate that this method is of a great improvement over point-based registration methods in both boundary alignment and local deformation recovery.

Optimization by Simulated Annealing
TL;DR: There is a deep and useful connection between statistical mechanics and multivariate or combinatorial optimization (finding the minimum of a given function depending on many parameters), and a detailed analogy with annealing in solids provides a framework for optimization of very large and complex systems.

Principal warps: thin-plate splines and the decomposition of deformations
TL;DR: The decomposition of deformations by principal warps is demonstrated and the method is extended to deal with curving edges between landmarks to aid the extraction of features for analysis, comparison, and diagnosis of biological and medical images.

A survey of image registration techniques
TL;DR: This paper organizes this material by establishing the relationship between the variations in the images and the type of registration techniques which can most appropriately be applied, and establishing a framework for understanding the merits and relationships between the wide variety of existing techniques.

Least-Squares Fitting of Two 3-D Point Sets
TL;DR: An algorithm for finding the least-squares solution of R and T, which is based on the singular value decomposition (SVD) of a 3 × 3 matrix, is presented.
