Abstract: Materials selection plays a major role in the functionality, acceptance, and the manufacturing processes of a new product. To properly select a material type for a specific product, various issues and requirements should be considered. These issues include the design of the product, the manufacturing process, safety, price, energy required for production, functionality, human ergonomic, toxicity, and the recyclability or life cycle assessment of the product at the end of its life. Therefore, composites as engineered functional materials have various issues to be considered during their selection process. This chapter deals with materials selection for composites materials. It provides information on various issues in materials selection for composites, as well as their constituents (matrices and fibers). Research works on materials selection for composites and advanced techniques in composite materials selection are also discussed.

- 16 Jul 2016
TL;DR: In this paper, cellulose nanofibers were isolated from a banana peel bran using chemical treatment (CT) and enzymatic treatment (ET) and characterized by size distribution, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR).
Constructing a framework for selecting natural fibres as reinforcements composites based on grey relational analysis
TL;DR: In this article , a grey relational analysis (GRA) based framework is proposed for material selection of natural fiber as reinforcement composites for a bicycle helmet. But the framework was created using the GRA technique, a robust evaluation tool that employs the grade of relation to determine the degree of similarity or difference between two sequences.
