Abstract: This paper presents Mapper4Live, a software plugin made for the popular digital audio workstation software Ableton Live. Mapper4Live exposes Abletonâs synthesis and effect parameters on the distributed libmapper signal mapping network, providing new opportunities for interaction between software and hardware synths, audio effects, and controllers. The pluginâs uses and relevance in research, music production and musical performance settings are explored, detailing the development journey and ideas for future work on the project.

Generalized Multi-Instance Control Mapping for Interactive Media Systems
TL;DR: The concept of a representation of temporal objects reflecting dynamic, short-lived mapping connections instantiated from a template is validated through implementation in the open source software libmapper, and its application is explored by integration with existing controller/synthesizer software and hardware.

MapLooper: Live-looping of distributed gesture-to-sound mappings
Christian Frisson,Mathias Bredholt,Joseph Malloch,Marcelo M. Wanderley +3 more
- 29 Apr 2021
TL;DR: The development of MapLooper is presented, a live-looping system for gesture-to-sound mappings based on a novel approach to mapping, extrapolating from using FIR and IIR filters on gestural data to using delay-lines as part of the mapping of DMIs.
A Method and Toolkit for Digital Musical Instruments: Generating Ideas and Prototypes
TL;DR: This work discusses aspects of DMI design by focusing on the complexity of the design space and the importance of prototyping cycles, and proposes a new methodology and an associated physical prototyping toolkit, which has building blocks inspired by of existing instruments.
