Abstract: Global average data suggest that the prevalence of obese and overweight males is much higher than that of females in some regions. The gender gap in obese and overweight individuals has deepened in many countries, and the gap is more prominent in overweight than in obesity. In particular, the prevalence of male obesity has continuously increased in the Republic of Korea over the past two decades, whereas the increase in female obesity has slowed and may even have plateaued. The cutoff point for obesity in Korea is a body mass index of ≥25 kg/m2, which is equivalent to the international classification of being overweight. Researching obesity in males is not as prevalent as studying obesity in females. Previous studies have rarely considered obesity type (android vs. gynoid), hormones (testosterone, androgen, etc.), awareness of body shape, or special resources such as exercise interventions to improve male weight issues. Adaptations to exercise interventions show individual variability as well as differences between men and women. Therefore, integrated approaches to research should be adopted, including evaluation of socio-demographic and physiological characteristics, to ensure that such interventions are not simply a symptomatic treatment but are actually treating the root cause of the obesity.

Converging vulnerability factors for compulsive food and drug use.
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors review data from animal models, clinical populations and epidemiological evidence in behavioral, genetic, pathophysiologic and therapeutic domains, and conclude that consumption of highly palatable foods and drugs of abuse both impact and conversely are regulated by metabolic hormones and metabolic status.

TL;DR: Evaluating the association between body mass index and body fat percentage with waist circumference as a cardiometabolic risk factor among university students indicated that 36.9% and 61.1% of men were overweight and had higher %BF, respectively, compared to women.

TL;DR: It can be concluded that sedentary lifestyle is gradually increased with age while physical activity decreases, and consequently, this situation causes overweight and obesity increase.
A systematic review and meta-analysis of the prevalence and determinants of gestational diabetes mellitus in Nigeria.
TL;DR: The most frequently reported determinants of GDM were previous macrosomic babies, maternal obesity, family history of diabetes, previous miscarriage, and advanced maternal age as discussed by the authors, which indicated that GDM has numerous potential complications and it is important to estimate its burden and risk factors.

Obesity in Caucasian Seniors on the Rise: Is It Truly Harmful? Results of the PolSenior2 Study
Monika Puzianowska-Kuznicka,Alina Kurylowicz,L. Wierucki,Aleksander Owczarek,Kacper Jagiełło,Małgorzata Mossakowska,Tomasz Zdrojewski,Jerzy Chudek +7 more
TL;DR: In this article , the authors investigated whether obesity frequency still increases in Polish Caucasian seniors and to verify the "obesity paradox" and found that overweight and obesity are not detrimental in seniors, including the oldest-old.

Appropriate body-mass index for Asian populations and its implications for policy and intervention strategies.
TL;DR: The proportion of Asian people with a high risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease is substantial at BMIs lower than the existing WHO cut-off point for overweight (> or =25 kg/m2), but available data do not necessarily indicate a clear BMI cut-offs point for all Asians for overweight or obesity.

TL;DR: It is suggested that adiponectin concentrations are determined by intra-abdominal fat mass, with additional independent effects of age and sex, and could link intra- abdominalFat with insulin resistance and an atherogenic lipoprotein profile.
