Is there any correlation between the ATS, BTS, ERS and GOLD COPD's severity scales and the frequency of hospital admissions?
Maria Tsoumakidou,Nikolaos Tzanakis,Olga Voulgaraki,Ioanna Mitrouska,Georgios Chrysofakis,Maria Samiou,Nikolaos M. Siafakas +6 more
TL;DR: In conclusion the GOLD and ERS classification systems of severity of COPD correlated to exacerbations causing hospitalisation but the same was not true for the ATS and BTS severity scales.

Short-term ventilatory effects in workers exposed to fumes containing zinc oxide : comparison of forced oscillation technique with spirometry
TL;DR: The forced oscillation technique proved at least as sensitive as spirometry to detect small across-shift changes in ventilatory function, and is likely that they represent a subclinical response to the inhalation of small quantities of zinc oxide.

Matrix Metalloproteinases in Tuberculosis-Immune Reconstitution Inflammatory Syndrome and Impaired Lung Function Among Advanced HIV/TB Co-infected Patients Initiating Antiretroviral Therapy.
Shruthi Ravimohan,Neo Tamuhla,Shiang-Ju Kung,Shiang-Ju Kung,Kebatshabile Nfanyana,Andrew P. Steenhoff,Andrew P. Steenhoff,Robert E. Gross,Drew Weissman,Gregory P. Bisson +9 more
TL;DR: ART-induced MMP increases are associated with TB-IRIS and may affect lung function post-TB cure and mechanisms whereby immune restoration impairs lung function in pTB deserve further investigation.

Cardiopulmonary Function in High Altitude Residents of Ladakh
TL;DR: Improved lung mechanics may be an important adaptation to the lifelong sustained increase in resting ventilation as well as to indoor biomass smoke and outdoor dust exposure of these populations at high altitude.

Diagnosis of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in general practice.
C.P. van Schayck,Peter J. Barnes,Kevin Jones,C.L.A. van Herwaarden,P.N.R. Dekhuijzen,C. van Weel,P.M. van Grunsven,Ben Bottema,E.F.M. Wouters,Jan Willem J. Lammers,G. Koeter +10 more
TL;DR: A pragmatic, primary care definition of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is put forward, which relies on objective parameters, such as determining the presence and degree of reversibility of airway obstruction, diurnal peak flow variability, bronchial hyper-responsiveness and allergy.
