Figueiredo,Amanda Costa Gomes,Erika Cosendey Toledo de Mello Peixoto,Paulo Cesar Ferreira,Luciana Pereira Silva +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluated genotoxicity and mutagenicity from different varieties of long-life tomatoes obtained by genetic breeding and also determined main bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity, and concluded that despite the absence of significant genotoxic activity among the evaluated samples, the antioxidant activity and the differences found in composition seems to be ruled by genetic factors.

Lycopene as the most efficient biological carotenoid singlet oxygen quencher.
TL;DR: Lycopene, a biologically occurring carotenoid, exhibits the highest physical quenching rate constant with singlet oxygen, and its plasma level is slightly higher than that of beta-carotene, but those compounds with low kq values occur at higher plasma levels.

Tomatoes, Tomato-Based Products, Lycopene, and Cancer: Review of the Epidemiologic Literature
TL;DR: The consistency of the results across numerous studies in diverse populations, for case-control and prospective studies, and for dietary-based and blood-based investigations argues against bias or confounding as the explanation for these findings.
