Impact of Mesophyll Diffusion on Estimated Global Land CO 2 Fertilization
Y. Sun,L. Gu,R. E. Dickinson +2 more
- 15 Dec 2014
TL;DR: In this article, the authors showed that current carbon cycle models underestimate the long-term responsiveness of global terrestrial productivity to CO2 fertilization, which is caused by an inherent model structural deficiency related to lack of explicit representation of CO2 diffusion inside leaves, which results in an overestimation of CO 2 available at the carboxylation site.

ERA-Interim/Land: A global land surface reanalysis dataset
Gianpaolo Balsamo,Clément Albergel,Anton Beljaars,Souhail Boussetta,Eric Brun,Hannah Cloke,Dick Dee,Emanuel Dutra,Joaquín Muñoz-Sabater,Florian Pappenberger,Patricia de Rosnay,Tim Stockdale,Frederic Vitart +12 more
- 01 Apr 2015
TL;DR: The ERA-Interim/Land dataset as mentioned in this paper provides a global integrated and coherent estimate of soil moisture and snow water equivalent, which can also be used for the initialization of numerical weather prediction and climate models.

The Land Use Model Intercomparison Project (LUMIP) Contribution to CMIP6: Rationale and Experimental Design
David M. Lawrence,George C. Hurtt,Almut Arneth,Victor Brovkin,Katherine Calvin,Andrew D. Jones,Chris Jones,Peter Lawrence,N. de Noblet-Ducoudré,Julia Pongratz,Sonia I. Seneviratne,Elena Shevliakova +11 more
- 01 Dec 2016
TL;DR: The Land Use Model Intercomparison Project (LUMIP) aims to further advance understanding of the impacts of land-use and land-cover change (LULCC) on climate, specifically addressing the following questions.

Biodiversity facets affect community surface temperature via 3D canopy structure in grassland communities
Claudia Guimarães-Steinicke,Alexandra Weigelt,Raphaël Proulx,Thomas Lanners,Nico Eisenhauer,Joaquín Duque-Lazo,Björn Reu,Christiane Roscher,Cameron Wagg,Cameron Wagg,Nina Buchmann,Christian Wirth,Christian Wirth +12 more
TL;DR: The mean and variation of canopy surface temperature were driven by differences in functional group composition (herbs‐ vs. grass dominance), to a lesser extent by plant diversity, and were partly mediated the metrics of canopy structure but also by direct effects unrelated to the structural metrics considered.
Pelagic Sargassum in the Florida Keys: assessment using high-resolution remote sensing
Sammir M Sullivan,Chuanmin Hu,Brian B. Barnes,Lin Qi +3 more
TL;DR: This study uses high-resolution remote sensing to assess pelagic Sargassum in the Florida Keys, achieving 88% accuracy in feature extraction and revealing temperature anomalies in 1-21% of detected mats, intensifying with Sargassum density.

Hydraulics and life history of tropical dry forest tree species: coordination of species' drought and shade tolerance.
TL;DR: It was found that deciduous species also had traits conferring efficient water transport relative to evergreen species, and a strong, negative correlation between K(l) and species' shade tolerance.

Where does the carbon go? A model-data intercomparison of vegetation carbon allocation and turnover processes at two temperate forest free-air CO2 enrichment sites.
Martin G. De Kauwe,Belinda E. Medlyn,Sönke Zaehle,Anthony P. Walker,Michael Dietze,Ying-Ping Wang,Yiqi Luo,Atul K. Jain,Bassil El-Masri,Thomas Hickler,David Wårlind,Ensheng Weng,William J. Warren,Ram Oren,Ram Oren,Richard J. Norby +25 more
TL;DR: This work used data from two temperate forest free-air CO2 enrichment experiments to evaluate representations of allocation and turnover in 11 ecosystem models and found that models did not perform well at predicting eCO2 effects on vegetation carbon storage.
Leaves in the lowest and highest winds: temperature, force and shape
TL;DR: The present review considers two extreme situations that may pose existential risks: broad leaves that heat rapidly when ambient air flows drop below c.

Taking off the training wheels: the properties of a dynamic vegetation model without climate envelopes, CLM4.5(ED)
Rosie A. Fisher,S. Muszala,M. Verteinstein,Peter Lawrence,Chonggang Xu,Nate G. McDowell,Ryan G. Knox,Charles D. Koven,Jennifer A. Holm,Brendan M. Rogers,Allan Spessa,Allan Spessa,David M. Lawrence,G. B. Bonan +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe an implementation of the Ecosystem Demography (ED) concept in the Community Land Model (CLM) and the physiological and structural modifications applied to the CLM are presented.
Unsaturated flow in spatially variable fields: 1. Derivation of models of infiltration and redistribution
Gedeon Dagan,Eshel Bresler +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a simplified solution of vertical flow in a homogeneous column, based on the concept of moving front, is developed, and a statistical procedure for using this solution in a spatially variable field is outlined.
