Abstract: Decision making often asks for classification. We will present a new R package klaR including functions to build, check, tune, visualize, and compare classification rules. The software is illustrated by means of a case study of prediction of the German economy’s business cycle phases.

Sexual Dimorphism and Allometric Effects Associated With the Wing Shape of Seven Moth Species of Sphingidae (Lepidoptera: Bombycoidea).
Willian R. F. de Camargo,Willian R. F. de Camargo,Nícholas F. de Camargo,Danilo do Carmo Vieira Correa,Amabílio J. A. de Camargo,Ivone Rezende Diniz +5 more
TL;DR: This work used geometric morphometric techniques to detect shape and size sexual dimorphism in the fore and hindwings of seven hawkmoth species, and found that the allometric effects were responsible for much of the wing shape variation between the sexes.
Engagement With a Behavior Change App for Alcohol Reduction: Data Visualization for Longitudinal Observational Study
TL;DR: The visualizations of behavioral engagement with Drink Less suggest that the daily notification substantially impacts engagement, and suggest that a fixed notification policy can be effective for maintaining engagement for some users but ineffective for others.

Regularized Discriminant Analysis
TL;DR: Alternatives to the usual maximum likelihood estimates for the covariance matrices are proposed, characterized by two parameters, the values of which are customized to individual situations by jointly minimizing a sample-based estimate of future misclassification risk.

TL;DR: It is found that, somewhat surprisingly, only two variables, ’wage and salary earners’ and ’unit labor costs’, are able to characterize the German business cycle not only the most stable over all subcycles but also with a quite reasonable error rate.
