Kinetic Data Analysis and Parameter Estimation
4
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a set of reaction model equations that describe the behavior of a reactor with sufficient accuracy, which are then used in a reactor model, i.e., a subset of equations that can be used to describe the behaviour of a reaction model with enough accuracy.

Abstract: The rational design, simulation and optimization of an industrial reactor has to be based on accurate, reliable data for mass, energy and momentum transport as well as chemical kinetics. For this purpose specially designed laboratory or pilot experiments are needed, as only in very rare cases is a theoretical evaluation possible. The aim of any kinetic data analysis in reaction engineering is to find adequate reaction model equations and to arrive at reliable parameter estimates dependent on the operating variables of the reactor, like pressure, temperature, flow conditions etc. These parameters then will be used in a reactor model, i.e., a set of equations that describe the behavior of a reactor with sufficient accuracy.

Equilibrium calculations in coal gasification
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors demonstrate that for reactive coal feedstocks and for gasifers operating at relatively high temperature and pressure (entrained flow and fluidized beds), product gas compositions can be estimated, regardless of gasifier type, using chemical equilibrium principles.

A simplex method for function minimization
John A. Nelder,R. Mead +1 more
TL;DR: A method is described for the minimization of a function of n variables, which depends on the comparison of function values at the (n 41) vertices of a general simplex, followed by the replacement of the vertex with the highest value by another point.

Diffusion in catalyst pellets
N. Wakao,J. M. Smith +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a theory for predicting diffusion rates at constant pressure through bi-disperse porous media is proposed, where the total rate is the sum of separate contributions for diffusion through macropores, micropores and a series path.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors applied both their own assumptions and the mechanism of lateral mixing proposed by Ranz (20) to obtain theoretical formulas for effective thermal conductivities in packed beds.
