Abstract: A new method for performing a nonlinear form of Principal Component Analysis is proposed. By the use of integral operator kernel functions, one can efficiently compute principal components in highdimensional feature spaces, related to input space by some nonlinear map; for instance the space of all possible d-pixel products in images. We give the derivation of the method and present experimental results on polynomial feature extraction for pattern recognition.

On The Effects Of Data Normalisation For Domain Adaptation On EEG Data
TL;DR: In this article , the authors evaluated the impact of different normalization strategies applied with and without several well-known Domain Adaption (DA) methods and found that the choice of the normalization strategy plays a key role on the classifier performances in DA scenarios, and, often, the use of only an appropriate normalization schema outperforms the DA technique.
The Atlas of Economic Complexity: A Review

TL;DR: In the Atlas of Economic Complexity as mentioned in this paper, the authors argue that nations which possess greater productive knowledge, represented in a measure termed economic complexity, will produce more products and more complex products as part of their export baskets.

Dimension-free tail inequalities for sums of random matrices.
TL;DR: This work derives exponential tail inequalities for sums of random matrices with no dependence on the explicit matrix dimensions that are similar to the matrix versions of the Chernoff bound and Bernstein inequality.

Application of the Karhunen-Loeve procedure for the characterization of human faces
Michael Kirby,Lawrence Sirovich +1 more
TL;DR: The use of natural symmetries (mirror images) in a well-defined family of patterns (human faces) is discussed within the framework of the Karhunen-Loeve expansion, which results in an extension of the data and imposes even and odd symmetry on the eigenfunctions of the covariance matrix.
