Abstract: A new method for performing a nonlinear form of Principal Component Analysis is proposed. By the use of integral operator kernel functions, one can efficiently compute principal components in highdimensional feature spaces, related to input space by some nonlinear map; for instance the space of all possible d-pixel products in images. We give the derivation of the method and present experimental results on polynomial feature extraction for pattern recognition.

Stacked Kernel Network.
TL;DR: A Stacked Kernel Network (SKN) is proposed that learns a hierarchy of RKHS-based nonlinear features by convolutional operation with each filter also parameterized by a RK HS function rather than a finite-dimensional matrix in CNN, which is suitable for image inputs.

Diffusion maps tailored to arbitrary non-degenerate Ito processes
TL;DR: In this article, two generalizations of the diffusion maps algorithm are presented, one replaces the drift term in diffusion maps with the gradient of an arbitrary density of interest which is known up to a normalization constant, and the second generalization allows for a diffusion map type approximation of the forward and backward generators of general Ito diffusions with given drift and diffusion coefficients.

Generating virtual training samples for sparse representation of face images and face recognition
TL;DR: This article views the multiplication of two images of the face as a virtual face image to expand the training set and devise a representation-based method to perform face recognition that outperforms some state-of-the-art face recognition methods.

TL;DR: A novel hybrid framework is proposed in this paper, which integrates the qualitative knowledge and the quantitative CM data, to evaluate the real-time hierarchical risk of UAVs and demonstrates the effectiveness and superiority of the hybrid framework on robust information fusion and accurate hierarchical risk assessment.

De Novo Protein Design for Novel Folds using Guided Conditional Wasserstein Generative Adversarial Networks (gcWGAN)
TL;DR: GcWGAN explores uncharted sequence space to design proteins by learning from current sequence-structure data and is found to have comparable or better fold accuracy yet much more sequence diversity and novelty than cVAE.

Michael Kirby,Lawrence Sirovich +1 more
TL;DR: The use of natural symmetries (mirror images) in a well-defined family of patterns (human faces) is discussed within the framework of the Karhunen-Loeve expansion, which results in an extension of the data and imposes even and odd symmetry on the eigenfunctions of the covariance matrix.
