Abstract: A new method for performing a nonlinear form of Principal Component Analysis is proposed. By the use of integral operator kernel functions, one can efficiently compute principal components in highdimensional feature spaces, related to input space by some nonlinear map; for instance the space of all possible d-pixel products in images. We give the derivation of the method and present experimental results on polynomial feature extraction for pattern recognition.

Novel sampling techniques for reservoir history matching optimisation and uncertainty quantification in flow prediction
Lina Mahgoub Yahya Mohamed
- 01 Jan 2011
TL;DR: This thesis has extended the PSO to handle multi-objective history matching problems in which a number of possible conflicting objectives must be satisfied simultaneously, and shown how to tackle a large number of unknown parameters through the coupling of high performance global optimisation algorithms, such as PSO, with model reduction techniques such as kernel principal component analysis (PCA), for parameterising spatially correlated random fields.

- 25 Mar 2015
TL;DR: In this article, a complex hyperspectral image classification method with regard to the spatial proximity of pixels is proposed, which combines the results of pixel-wise support vector machine classification and a set of contours derived from kmeans++ image clustering.

TL;DR: P pose and illumination are the main causes for the degradation of 2D face recognition algorithms, and some of the new face recognition strategies tend to overcome both challenges from a 3D perspective.
Patch‐based local deep feature extraction for automated skin cancer classification
TL;DR: This work proposes a novel method using patch‐based local deep feature extraction using a pre‐trained CNN model to detect skin cancer through dermoscopy images and achieves promising results in comparison with state‐of‐the‐art approaches.

Application of the Karhunen-Loeve procedure for the characterization of human faces
Michael Kirby,Lawrence Sirovich +1 more
TL;DR: The use of natural symmetries (mirror images) in a well-defined family of patterns (human faces) is discussed within the framework of the Karhunen-Loeve expansion, which results in an extension of the data and imposes even and odd symmetry on the eigenfunctions of the covariance matrix.
