TL;DR: Enhanced interhemispheric interaction in mathematically gifted adolescents, average-ability youth, and college students was examined and suggested that enhanced interhemisphere interaction is a unique functional characteristic of the MG brain.

Abstract: Interhemispheric interaction in mathematically gifted (MG) adolescents, average-ability (AA) youth, and college students (CS) was examined by presenting hierarchical letter pairs in 3 viewing conditions: (a) unilaterally to the right hemisphere (RH), (b) unilaterally to the left hemisphere (LH), or (c) bilaterally, with 1 member of the pair presented to each hemisphere simultaneously. Participants made global-local, match-no-match judgments. For the AA and CS, the LH was faster for local matches and the RH for global matches. The MG showed no hemispheric differences. Also, AA and CS were slower on cooperative compared with unilateral trials, whereas the MG showed the opposite pattern. These results suggest that enhanced interhemispheric interaction is a unique functional characteristic of the MG brain.

Neuromythologies in education
TL;DR: The authors examined several of the most popular neuromyths in the light of relevant neuroscientific and educational evidence, including 10% brain usage, left-and right-brained thinking, VAK learning styles and multiple intelligences.

The evolution and genetics of cerebral asymmetry
TL;DR: It is suggested that, in behavioural, neurological and evolutionary terms, it may be more profitable to examine the degree rather than the direction of asymmetry, because a minority of individuals reverse or negate the dominant asymmetry.
The role of domain-specific practice, handedness, and starting age in chess.
TL;DR: The results suggest that practice is a necessary but not sufficient condition for the acquisition of expertise, that some additional factors may differentiate chessplayers and nonchessplayers, and that starting age of practice is important.
Cognitive Style as Environmentally Sensitive Individual Differences in Cognition: A Modern Synthesis and Applications in Education, Business, and Management
TL;DR: Cognitive style is characterized as patterns of adaptation to the external world that develop on the basis of innate predispositions, the interactions among which are shaped by changing environmental demands.

Cognitive style predicts entry into physical sciences and humanities: Questionnaire and performance tests of empathy and systemizing
TL;DR: In this article, the authors assess whether a cognitive style characterized by systemizing being at a higher level than empathizing is better than sex in predicating entry into the physical sciences compared to humanities.

TL;DR: The idea that global structuring of a visual scene precedes analysis of local features is suggested, discussed, and tested as discussed by the authors, and it was found that global differences were detected more often than local differences.

TL;DR: The naturally occurring regressive events in neurogenesis, such as neuronal cell death and axonal elimination, may be factors in the individual differences in brain morphology and in functional lateralization.

Sex differences in mathematical reasoning ability in intellectually talented preadolescents: Their nature, effects, and possible causes
TL;DR: For example, this article found that there are consistent sex differences favoring males in mathematical reasoning ability, as measured by the mathematics section of the SAT (SAT-M), and these differences are most pronounced at the highest levels of mathematical reasoning, and they are stable over time.
