Abstract: We describe the VISTAnet gigabit testbed's visualization system, a parallel, interactive, multimodal renderer implemented on the Pixel-Planes 5 graphics engine. The system displays multiple superimposed data sets characterizing a 3D radiation treatment scenario. Its features are designed to facilitate comprehension of spatial relationships among geometrically complex anatomy and radiation dose structures. The algorithms and visualization options of this mature system are general and should be useful for other applications. The VISTAnet system is currently in clinical evaluation.

- 17 Oct 1994
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore possibilities for a particular application-in-place, real-time 3D ultrasound visualization-without concern for such limitations, and show a 3D fetus within a pregnant woman's abdomen-the way this would look to a HMD user.

Interactive volume visualization on a heterogeneous message-passing multicomputer
Andrei State,Jonathan McAllister,Ulrich Neumann,Hong Chen,Tim J. Cullip,David Chen,Henry Fuchs +6 more
- 15 Apr 1995
TL;DR: The parallelization and load balancing techniques used in order to achieve interactive response and near-real-time frame rates are described and some general conclusions about operation of image-order rendering algorithms on message-passing multicomputers are derived.
Analysis of Traffic Measurements in the VISTAnet Gigabit Networking Testbed
Harry G. Perros,Arne A. Nilsson,Hung-Chang Kuo +2 more
- 27 Jun 1994
TL;DR: This paper believes that its is one of the first measurements of traffic from a real application operating in a high-speed networking environment employing ATM technology, and it is shown that its traffic measurements fit neatly into a proposed hierarchical traffic model which describes the traffic source behavior at different time-scales.

Bunker view: limited-range head-motion-parallax visualization for complex data sets
Andrei State,Suresh Balu,Henry Fuchs +2 more
- 09 Sep 1994
TL;DR: This work presents a head-motion-parallax visualization system for arbitrarily complex computer graphics databases (such as biomedical data sets) using precomputed images that features a large rear-projection screen and a blind restricting the range of possible vantage points.

Display of surfaces from volume data
TL;DR: In this article, a volume-rendering technique for the display of surfaces from sampled scalar functions of 3D spatial dimensions is discussed, which is not necessary to fit geometric primitives to the sampled data; images are formed by directly shading each sample and projecting it onto the picture plane.
