Due to the relatively inexpensive availability of displays and printers, graphic interfaces are increasingly playing an important role in analyzing stored or computed data. The integration of graphical data presentation and computerized databases is thus becoming important for the professional end user. This paper describes the design of a visual business graphical interface for office applications. A visual programming approach for creating a business graphic query and generating business graphics is presented. It provides a flexible interface between graphics applications and database. The system enables professionals who are non-programmers to generate the desired graphical presentation of data from database without the help of a professional programmer.

The development of a computer system requires the definition of a precise set of properties or constraints that the system must satisfy with maximum economy and efficiency. This definition process requires a significant amount of communication between the requestor and the developer of the system. In recent years, several methodologies and tools have been proposed to improve this communication process. This paper establishes a framework for examining the methodologies and techniques, charting the progress made, and identifying opportunities to improve the communication capabilities of a requirements engineering tool.

Incorporating usability into requirements engineering tools

Integrated software has become rather popular in recent years. After the spreadsheet found wide acceptance among application users, many vendors rushed to integrate several well-defined business application tasks within a spreadsheet environment. Such systems, however, are limited in that they cannot replace a conventional database. Businesses must keep data in a formal database to maintain data consistency and facilitate sharing. This paper describes the design and implementation of an integrated software system which captures the ease-of-use of many of the current integrated systems, and also provides a relational database for common data storage, allowing for data sharing among several integrated business applications. In addition, the system provides an unusually powerful visual interface which can be used to build custom applications without the need for traditional programming.
