Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To authenticate a user using one of a plurality of authentication devices and uniquely identify the user who has used a device after the authentication. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus stores a first user identifier for identifying each user by its own device and a plurality of second user identifiers that are stored in each authentication device and identify the user by each authentication device, associating the first user identifier and the second user identifiers. Authentication information input by the user is transmitted to at least one of the authentication devices for requesting authentication of the user. When the authentication of the user by the authentication device is successful, the second user identifier of the user stored in the authentication device is acquired, and the first user identifier stored in association with the acquired second user identifier is identified.
