Informal urban development in Latin American urban peripheries. Spatial assessment in Bogotá, Lima and Santiago de Chile
Luis Inostroza,Luis Inostroza +1 more
102
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore features of NUPs by examining the material, i.e., physical, informality of the urban tissue, and show that NUP areas follow very specific and differentiated spatial patterns, namely, compact in Bogota, irregular but attached to the urban core in Lima, and highly fragmented and diffuse in Santiago, with different material expressions of informal urban development as well.

A Heat Vulnerability Index: Spatial Patterns of Exposure, Sensitivity and Adaptive Capacity for Santiago de Chile.
TL;DR: A heat vulnerability index is proposed for Santiago, Chile and is constructed from spatially explicit indexes for exposure, sensitivity and adaptive capacity levels derived from remote sensing data and socio-economic information assessed via principal component analysis (PCA).
From urban climate to energy consumption. Enhancing building performance simulation by including the urban heat island effect
Massimo Palme,Luis Inostroza,Luis Inostroza,Geovanna Villacreses,Andrea Lobato-Cordero,Claudio Carrasco +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, a methodology to incorporate the urban heat island effect in building performance simulation is proposed, and the results indicate that when UHI is incorporated, an increase in energy demand between 15% and 200% can be expected.

Geographically Weighted Regression: The Analysis of Spatially Varying Relationships
A. Fotheringham,Chris Brunsdon,Martin Charlton +2 more
- 11 Oct 2002
TL;DR: In this paper, the basic GWR model is extended to include local statistics and local models for spatial data, and a software for Geographically Weighting Regression is described. But this software is not suitable for the analysis of large scale data.
Urban Informality: Toward an Epistemology of Planning
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors focus on urban informality to highlight the challenges of dealing with the "unplannable" exceptions to the order of formal urbanization and argue that planners must learn to work with this state of exception.

Land use dynamics in peri-urban areas and their implications on the urban growth and form: the case of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined recent trends in land use transformation taking place in the peri-urban areas of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and demonstrated that urbanisation in poverty is the key factor underpinning and catalysing changes in land uses, land transactions, increased rural-urban immigration and the overall transformation of land use in the Peri-Urban areas.
