Abstract: Acute and chronic inflammation is associated with changes in microvascular form and function At rest, endothelial cells maintain a nonthrombogenic, nonreactive surface at the interface between blood and tissue However, on activation by proinflammatory mediators, the endothelium becomes a major participant in the generation of the inflammatory response These functions of endothelium are modified by the other cell populations of the microvessel wall, namely pericytes, and smooth muscle cells This article reviews recent advances in understanding the roles played by microvessels in inflammation

Group B streptococci lyse endothelial cells to infect the brain in a zebrafish meningitis model
Sumedha Ravishankar,Samantha M. Tuohey,Nicole O. Ramos,Satoshi Uchiyama,Megan Hayes,Victor Nizet,Cressida A. Madigan +6 more
- 01 Oct 2024
TL;DR: Group B Streptococcus causes meningitis by lysing endothelial cells in the blood-brain barrier, rather than transcytosis, and triggers inflammation and clotting in zebrafish larvae, a novel in vivo model for studying bacterial meningitis.
Identification Of Three Key Factors Contributing To The Aetiology Of Dark Circles By Clinical And Instrumental Assessments Of The Infraorbital Region.
Sophie Mac-Mary,Itziar Zornoza Solinis,Océane Predine,J M Sainthillier,Christelle Sladen,Mike Bell,Mark M. O’Mahony +6 more
TL;DR: Three key physiological factors associated with the occurrence of infraorbital dark circles are hyperpigmentation, a tendency for more dilated, thicker or increased number of capillaries and thinner skin in the under-eye area, and the combination of these three factors provides a robust indication of the presence of infRAorbitaldark circles.
Covid-19 and the kidney: From epidemiology to clinical practice
Ida Gagliardi,Gemma Patella,Ashour Michael,Raffaele Serra,Michele Provenzano,Michele Andreucci +5 more
TL;DR: Attention is focused on the epidemiology, etiology and pathophysiological mechanisms of kidney damage, histopathology, clinical features in nephropathic patients (CKD, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, AKI, transplantation) and prevention and containment strategies.
Novel Zinc-silver Nanocages for Drug Delivery and Wound Healing: Preparation, Characterization and Antimicrobial Activities.
TL;DR: In this paper , metal organic framework (MOF)-nanocages (NCs) in the form of zinc-based nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized as drug carriers for the purpose of wound healing.
Changes in vascular function during breast cancer treatment.
Stine Overvad Fredslund,Niels H. Buus,Niels H. Buus,Cecilie Højgaard Skjold,Esben Laugesen,Anders Bonde Jensen,Britt Elmedal Laursen,Britt Elmedal Laursen +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated whether chemotherapy induces early or late vascular dysfunction in vivo, and found that after 12 months of chemotherapy, microvascular dysfunction persists in terms of reduced NO-dependent vasodilation without alterations in aortic pulse wave velocity or arterial stiffness.

Nitric oxide synthases: regulation and function.
TL;DR: Nitric oxide (NO), the smallest signalling molecule known, is produced by three isoforms of NO synthase (NOS), which can be expressed in many cell types in response to lipopolysaccharide, cytokines, or other agents.
