The fluvial to marine transition zone and its stratigraphic significance
Marcello Gugliotta
- 10 Jan 2016
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated how fluvial and tidal process interactions are preserved and distributed in the rock record, and showed that highstand systems tract progradational deltas of the Middle Jurassic Lajas Formation (Neuqun Basin, Argentina) have been investigated in large scale outcrops.

Ecology and fluvial dynamics of an Early Holocene medium-sized European lowland river valley (Upper Scheldt, northern Belgium)
Annelies Storme,Jan Bastiaens,Philippe Crombé,Sofie Debruyne,Stephen Louwye,Koen Deforce,Koen Deforce +6 more
- 01 Jan 2019
TL;DR: In this paper, a rescue excavation in the Scheldt valley in northern Belgium offered the opportunity to study a Boreal alluvial succession in detail and the results of palaeoecological and sedimentological analyses (diatoms, pollen, botanical macro-remains, molluscs, grain size) characterize the biotic and physical environment in the middle reach of this medium-sized river system.

Multi-scale, multi-style soft-sediment deformation structures preserved in Cenozoic fluvial deposits, southeastern Brazil: Evidence of impact shaking?
TL;DR: In this paper , an integrated analysis of sedimentary facies, depositional architecture data, and soft-sediment deformation (SSD) data from the São Paulo Formation is presented, in order to discuss the deformation mechanisms and plausible triggering mechanisms responsible for the development of such structures.

Architectural-Element Analysis: A New Method of Facies Analysis Applied to Fluvial Deposits
TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a new method of analysis for fluvial facies, which subdivides fluvic deposits into local suites consisting of one or more of a set of eight basic three-dimensional architectural elements.

A review of the origin and characteristics of recent alluvial sediments
TL;DR: In this paper, the geometrical, textural, structural, and biological characteristics of alluvial sediments are reviewed with respect to their geometrically, texturally, structural and biological properties, which are related to the physiographic occurrence and hydraulic geometry of streams and to the dynamics of flowing water.

Sedimentology of Gravels and Conglomerates
Emlyn H. Koster,Ronald J. Steel +1 more
- 01 Jun 1984
TL;DR: In this article, a review of diagnostic features and facies sequences of alluvial/marine systems is presented, and particular effort must be made to extract maximum information from the individual bed characteristics.
