Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the components and the overall size of image forming devices, and ensure high-quality image formation. SOLUTION: A holding tray 4 is pivotally disposed over or integrated with a feed tray 3 on which paper sheets are stacked, and a division plate 11 is arranged near a feed roller 8 for delivering paper sheets from the feed tray 3 toward a recording position wherein a recording head 15 is situated. Upward pivotal movement of the holding tray 4 typically enables replenishment of paper sheets into the feed tray 3. For image formation that reciprocates sheets relative to the recording head 15, the division plate 11 regulates the back delivered paper sheets or guides them toward the holding tray 4 to thus protect them against damage and ensure high-quality image formation. The holding tray 4 serves not only as an operating lever typically permitting paper sheet replenishment but also for sheet protection during image formation to thus reduce the number of components used and the overall device size.
