Iron-chelating therapy and the treatment of thalassemia
TL;DR: The toxicity of this agent mandates a careful evaluation of the balance between risk and benefit of deferiprone in patients with thalassemia, in most of whom long-term deferoxamine is safe and efficacious therapy.

Zoonotic aspects of rotaviruses
TL;DR: Genetic heterogeneity in the 11 double stranded RNA segments across different rotavirus strains has provided evidence for frequent intersections between the evolution of human and animal rotaviruses, as a result of multiple, repeated events of interspecies transmission and subsequent adaptation.

Rotavirus vaccines: current prospects and future challenges
Roger I. Glass,Umesh D. Parashar,Joseph S. Bresee,Reina M. Turcios,Thea Kølsen Fischer,Marc-Alain Widdowson,Baoming Jiang,Jon R. Gentsch +7 more
TL;DR: Although many scientific, programmatic, and financial challenges face the global use of rotavirus vaccines, these vaccines-and new candidates in the pipeline-hold promise to make an immediate and measurable effect to improve child health and survival from this common burden affecting all children.

Detection of hepatitis B virus DNA in serum by a simple spot hybridization technique: comparison with results for other viral markers.
Jacques Scotto,Jacques Scotto,Michelle Hadchouel,Christiane Hery,Jeannine Yvart,Pierre Tiollais,Christian Brechot +6 more
TL;DR: A simplified spot method for determination in serum of hepatitis B virus DNA (HBV DNA) by molecular hybridization is proposed, which greatly reduced the duration of the steps preceding hybridization proper and allowed more sensitive detection in samples of only 25 or 50 m̈1.

Antibodies to Borrelia burgdorferi in New England horses: serologic survey.
TL;DR: The finding that seropositive horses did not have agglutinating antibodies against potentially cross-reacting Leptospira spp indicated that horses in endemic areas were exposed to B burgdorferi and that the spirochete induced an antibody response in the horses.
