Abstract: We report the spectroscopy and laser results of cerium-doped colquiriite LiCaAlF6 (LiCAF) single crystals. High quality samples have been grown using the Czochralski technique and characterized by means of X-ray Laue diffractometry, absorption and emission spectra. Moreover, we measured the lifetime and deduced the emission cross-sections of the laser transition. Using this crystal we realized two lasers devices: a high-efficiency laser emitting at 289 nm with a repetition rate (RR) of up to 2 kHz and a widely tunable laser (from 280 nm to 317 nm) with an RR of up to 4.3 kHz. The high quality of the crystal made it possible to obtain the highest slope efficiency (49%) ever reported to our knowledge for a Ce:LiCAF laser.

Vacuum ultraviolet excitation spectra of lanthanide-doped hexafluoroelpasolites
TL;DR: Vacuum ultraviolet excitation spectra at ∼10 K have been recorded for transitions of Cs(2)NaYF(6):Ln(3+) (Ln = Nd, Sm, Eu, Tb, Ho, Er, Tm) and the agreement with experimental results is reasonable.
A luminescence spectroscopy and theoretical study of 4f–5d transitions of Ce3 + ions in SrAlF5 crystals
Sergey Omelkov,Sergey Omelkov,Mikhail G. Brik,Marco Kirm,V. A. Pustovarov,Valter Kiisk,Ilmo Sildos,Sven Lange,Sergei Lobanov,L. I. Isaenko +9 more
TL;DR: This research is focused on the 4f-5d transitions in Ce(3+) centers doped into tetragonal β-SrAlF(5) single crystals belonging to the I4(1)/a space group, which leads to the appearance of three spectroscopically non-equivalent Ce( 3+) luminescence centers, which can be well distinguished using a time-resolved laser spectroscopy technique.

Vibronic interactions in Nd:YAG resulting in nonreciprocity of absorption and stimulated emission cross sections
B. Aull,H. P. Jenssen +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss the quantum efficiency of the metastable 4 F 3/2 nd:YAG state and show that the vibronic interaction disrupts the equality between absorption and emission cross section ("reciprocity") upon which spectroscopic quantum efficiency measurements are based.

Ultraviolet solid-state Ce:YLF laser at 325 nm
TL;DR: In this paper, the first reported observation of stimulated emission from a 5d-4f transition in a triply ionized rare-earth-doped crystal was described, and the shortest wavelength yet obtained from an optically pumped solid-state laser.

Ultraviolet solid-state Ce:YLF laser at 325 nm
TL;DR: The first reported observation of stimulated emission from a 5d-4f transition in a triply ionized rare-earth-doped crystal is described, which makes the Ce:YLF laser a potentially tunable source of coherent near-ultraviolet radiation between 305 and 335 nm.
