Analysis of Adaptive Neural Networks for Helicopter Flight Control
TL;DR: It is shown that the performance varies gracefully and monotonically improves as the adaptation gain parameter is increased, and the effect on control effort is modest and is mainly perceptible only during a short training episode that can be associated with transition from hover to forward.

Robust adaptive control of uncertain nonlinear systems using neural networks
M.B. McFarland,Anthony J. Calise +1 more
- 04 Jun 1997
TL;DR: In this article, a hybrid approach to the problem of controlling a class of nonlinear systems in the face of both unknown nonlinearities and unmodeled dynamics is described. But the authors do not consider the effects of unmodelled dynamics on the performance of a longitudinal autopilot.

Trigonometric RBF neural robust controller design for a class of nonlinear system with linear input unmodeled dynamics
TL;DR: In this paper, adaptive neural robust controller was designed by using adaptive backstepping method for a class of multi-input to multi-output nonlinear systems which could be turned to ''standard block control type''.

Neural-adaptive nonlinear autopilot design for an agile anti-air missile
Michael B. McFarland,Anthony J. Calise +1 more
- 29 Jul 1996
TL;DR: A control scheme based on approximate inversion of the vehicle dynamics is presented, and this nonlinear control system is augmented by the addition of a feedforward neural network with on-line learning, thus assuring the stability of the closed-loop system.
