Abstract: The invention relates to a direct-search three-code indexing system of Chinese characters, and pertains to an indexing method of Chinese characters. The indexing system overcomes such defects existing in the indexing methods by radical, phonetic sequence, four corner code, and stroke number and the like as complex indexing procedure, slow speed, difficulties in memorizing rules, low accuracy, excessive Chinese characters sharing a same code, etc. The important points are as follows: five numbers, namely '1,2,3,4 and 5', are used for respectively representing five basic strokes, 'a horizontal stoke, a vertical stroke, a falling left stroke, a drop and a horizontal turning curved hook stroke' and named 'stroke codes'; another five numbers, '6,7,8,9 and 0', are used for respectively representing five radicals with higher appearance frequency in Chinese character structures, namely 'hand, grass, wood, water, and enclosure', and named 'radical codes'. The stroke codes and the radical codes are collectively referred to as 'stroke codes'. The encoding rules are as follows: a direct-search three-code is equal to the number of strokes, a dot, a first stroke code plus a second stroke code and a last stroke code. The number of strokes of a Chinese character is at the left of the dot, while a three codes formed by the first stroke code, the second stroke code and the last stroke code is at the right of the dot. The direct-search three-code indexing system can be used for the compilation of Chinese character reference books such as a Chinese dictionary and the like.
