Abstract: The prevalence of left-handedness and the degree of handedness were examined in 130 normal and mentally handicapped pupils of both sexes, aged between seven and 18 years. Handedness was assessed by means of 10 performance items. The prevalence of left-handedness among normal pupils (10.6 per cent) was significantly lower than that for the mentally handicapped group (26.5 per cent). There was no significant difference in the prevalence of left-handedness between the mentally handicapped pupils with and without Down's syndrome. The degree of handedness was also reduced in the mentally handicapped group, but again there was no difference between those with and without Down's syndrome.

Atypicalities in cortical structure, handedness, and functional lateralization for language in autism spectrum disorders.
TL;DR: The evidence indicates reduced structural asymmetry in fronto-temporal language regions, attenuated functional activation in response to language and pre-linguistic stimuli, and more ambiguous (mixed) hand preferences, in individuals with ASDs.

Intelligence, memory, and handedness in pedophilia.

TL;DR: Pedophilia showed significant negative correlations with IQ and immediate and delayed recall memory and was related to non-right-handedness even after covarying age and IQ.

IQ, handedness, and pedophilia in adult male patients stratified by referral source.
Ray Blanchard,Ray Blanchard,Nathan J. Kolla,Nathan J. Kolla,James M. Cantor,Philip E. Klassen,Philip E. Klassen,Robert Dickey,Robert Dickey,Michael E. Kuban,Thomas Blak +10 more
TL;DR: The results showed that the relations between pedophilia and lower IQ, lesser education, and increased rates of non-right-handedness were the same in homogeneous groups referred by lawyers or parole and probation officers as they were in a heterogeneous group referred by a miscellany of other sources, supporting the conclusion that the relation between Pedophilia and cognitive function is genuine and not artifactual.

Hand preference and hand skill in children with autism
Kim Cornish,I. C. McManus +1 more
TL;DR: There is no evidence of a dissociation of hand skill and hand preference in children with autism compared to children with learning disabilities and normal developing children.

Do left-handed competitors have an innate superiority in sports?
TL;DR: It appears that left-handers are more common among those who engage in competitive manual activities, and this superiority of the left- handers may be fully explained by a consideration of tactical or strategic factors associated with handedness during sporting interactions.

Iron and the sex difference in heart disease risk
TL;DR: The hypothesis offered is that the greater incidence of heart diseases in men and postmenopausal women compared with the incidence in premenopausalWomen is due to higher levels of stored iron in these two groups, and the heart diseases of affluence are rare among impoverished peoples who are often iron deficient.

Handedness, language dominance and aphasia: a genetic model.
TL;DR: The same model is fitted, by means of a number of minor conceptual extensions, to data from the literature on the relationship of handedness to language dominance, acute and permanent aphasia, and visual processing dominance.

TL;DR: The results of the present study suggest that the hypothesis of no difference in intellectual and cognitive performance between right- and left-handed subjects can be accepted as true.
