Financial development and energy consumption in Central and Eastern European frontier economies
766
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the impact of financial development on energy consumption in a sample of 9 Central and Eastern European frontier economies and found a positive and statistically significant relationship between financial development and energy consumption when financial development is measured using banking variables like deposit money bank assets to GDP, financial system deposits to GDP or liquid liabilities to GDP.

The impact of financial sanctions on financial risk of target countries
Jin Zeng,Xinxin Zhang,Hua-Tang Yin,Chun‐Ping Chang +3 more
TL;DR: Financial sanctions significantly increase the financial risk of target countries, limiting international capital flows, foreign aids, and increasing risk for foreign debt, debt service, and international liquidity.

The Role of Globalization on the Recent Evolution of Energy Demand in India: Implications for Sustainable Development
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explored the relationship between globalization and energy consumption for India by endogenizing economic growth, financial development and urbanization, and found that in the long run, the acceleration of globalization (measured in three dimensions - economic, social and overall globalization) leads to a decline in energy demand in India.
The nexus between energy consumption and financial development: estimating the role of globalization in Next-11 countries
TL;DR: The empirical results of the study suggest that financial development stimulates energy consumption and globalization increases demand for energy consumption, although the single country analysis suggests that the effect of globalization on energy demand is heterogeneous among N-11 countries.
New insights into the nexus between international trade, urbanization, nonrenewable energy consumption, and environmental quality in China: Evidence from Multivariate Threshold Regression
Ali Sohail,Babar Nawaz Abbasi,Zahoor Ahmed +2 more
TL;DR: New insights into the nexus between international trade, urbanization, nonrenewable energy consumption, and environmental quality in China reveal the impacts of these factors on environmental quality and the threshold levels that should be maintained to protect the environment and promote sustainability.
New insights into decoupling economic growth, technological progress and carbon dioxide emissions: Evidence from 40 countries
TL;DR: In this article, a Panel Smooth Transition Regression model for the period between 1994 and 2016 was used to evaluate the relationship between economic growth and material flows in terms of CO2 emissions.

Manuel Arellano,Stephen Bond +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the generalized method of moments (GMM) estimator optimally exploits all the linear moment restrictions that follow from the assumption of no serial correlation in the errors, in an equation which contains individual effects, lagged dependent variables and no strictly exogenous variables.

Initial conditions and moment restrictions in dynamic panel data models
Richard Blundell,Stephen Bond +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, two alternative linear estimators that are designed to improve the properties of the standard first-differenced GMM estimator are presented. But both estimators require restrictions on the initial conditions process.

Another look at the instrumental variable estimation of error-components models
Manuel Arellano,Olympia Bover +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a framework for efficient IV estimators of random effects models with information in levels which can accommodate predetermined variables is presented. But the authors do not consider models with predetermined variables that have constant correlation with the effects.

Initial conditions and moment restrictions in dynamic panel data models
Richard Blundell,Stephen Bond +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the autoregressive error components model was extended with a linear generalized method of moments (GMM) estimator, which was shown to be equivalent to the optimal GMM estimator for the normal homoskedastic error component model.

Finance and Growth: Schumpeter Might Be Right
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined a cross-section of about 80 countries for the period 1960-89 and found that various measures of financial development are strongly associated with both current and later rates of economic growth.
