Abstract: PURPOSE: To ensure securecy of information by cyphering secret information by data cryptographic key and recording and transferring the data cryptographic key cyphered by means of cryptographic key means. CONSTITUTION: A terminal security unit 15 as a kind of cyphering devices takes a form of a black box and a proper cryptographic key TK whose contents are automatically extinguished when unsealing is done e.g. by illegal reverse engineering and aquired only by a user is sealed. The cryptographic key TK itself has not a function for directly cyphering plain text information (X), plays a role of a kind of master keys, cyphers a data cryptographic key DEX and is provided with the function of further cyphering the 'key' on algorism for cyphering processing of the plain text information. The data cryptographic key means itself is cyphered and freely stored or transferred. COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio

Hash-based systems and methods for detecting and preventing transmission of unwanted e-mail
Walter Clark Milliken,William Timothy Strayer,Stephen Douglas Milligan +2 more
- 09 Oct 2008
TL;DR: In this article, a system (120) detects transmission of potentially unwanted e-mail messages by generating hash values based on one or more portions of the e-mails and then determining whether the generated hash values match hash values associated with prior e-email messages.

System and method for data recovery
Steven B. Lipner,David M. Balenson,Carl M. Ellison,Stephen T. Walker +3 more
- 21 Feb 1995
TL;DR: In this paper, a system and method for data escrow cryptography are described, where an encrypting user encrypts a message using a secret storage key (KS) and attaches a data recovery field (DRF), including an access rule index (ARI) and KS, to the encrypted message.

Hash-based systems and methods for detecting and preventing transmission of polymorphic network worms and viruses
Walter Clark Milliken,William Timothy Strayer,Stephen Douglas Milligan,Luis Sanchez,Craig Partridge +4 more
- 18 Apr 2010
TL;DR: In this article, a system (200) detects transmission of potentially malicious packets and generates hash values based on variable-sized blocks of the packets, then compares the generated hash values to hash values associated with prior packets.

Dynamic evaluation of access rights
Michael Michio Ouye,Steven Toye Crocker +1 more
- 22 Apr 2002
TL;DR: In this article, an access right evaluation process is carried out among all applicable policies, including those embedded in the secured electronic data, to grant or deny access rights to a user attempting to access a protected system or secure electronic data.

Method for selective encryption within documents
Randolph Michael Forlenza,Viktors Berstis +1 more
- 23 Oct 2003
TL;DR: In this article, the author or creator of a document can specify that certain portions of the document be selected for encryption while other portions remain displayed as created, and the highlighted portion would then be tagged with a surrounding attribute indicating to the word processor that this highlighted portion is to be encrypted.

Method of distributing computer data files
John C. Santon,Kenneth R. Nielsen,Christen M. Armbrust,Pankaj B. Shah,Steven J. Hand +4 more
- 09 Aug 1990
TL;DR: In this article, a method of distributing a plurality of data files to a majority of recipients is proposed. But the method requires the recipient to be provided with media reading devices having data file decryption capability to decrypt the accessed data files.

A method for utilizing an encrypted key as a key identifier in a data packet in a computer network
Charles W. Kaufman,B.J. Herbison +1 more
- 11 Jun 1990
TL;DR: In this paper, a shared key is negotiated between two nodes and then encrypted under each nodes' master key, which is then used to decrypt encrypted data in the data packet and the encrypted key of the receiving node is placed in the packet to be sent by the transmitting node.

Method for encryption and transmission of digital keying data
Susan M. Mniszewski,Edward A. Springer,David P. Brenner +2 more
- 06 May 1985
TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a method for the encryption, transmission, and subsequent decryption of digital keying data. The method utilizes the Data Encryption Standard and is implemented by means of a pair of apparatus, each of which is selectable to operate as either a master unit or a remote unit.
