Interaction of thiocarbamate herbicides with fatty acid synthesis in germinating peas and their microsomal fractions
TL;DR: It is concluded, from experiments, that the thiocarbamates are converted to more active metabolites (possibly sulphoxides) and it is these metabolites which are responsible for the selective inhibition of fatty acid elongation and, hence, interfere with the formation of surface coverings.
ω-3 Fatty Acid Desaturase Genes Isolated from Purslane (Portulaca oleracea L.): Expression in Different Tissues and Response to Cold and Wound Stress
TL;DR: Total fatty acid and linolenic acid content were higher both, in wounded and intact leaves of plants exposed to low temperature, and PoleFAD8 was up-regulated by cold stress but not by wounding.
Allelic variation of the ACCase gene and response to ACCase‐inhibiting herbicides in pinoxaden‐resistant Lolium spp.
TL;DR: Although pinoxaden is sometimes able to control FOP-resistant populations, it should not be considered as a sustainable ACCase resistance management tool, and almost all the ACCase mutations selected in the field by other ACCase inhibitors are likely to confer resistance toPinoxaden.
Lipid transfer in plants
V. Arondel,J. C. Kader +1 more
TL;DR: Investigation of cytosolic proteins from three plants revealed striking homologies and conserved domains which are probably involved in their function as LTPs, which could play a major role in membrane biogenesis.

The effect of low temperatures on fatty acid biosynthesis in plants
P. Harris,A T James +1 more
TL;DR: Of three systems, bulb tissue, plant leaf tissue and intact green algal cells, only the former shows an increase in rate of formation of unsaturated fatty acids with decrease in temperature, which is attributed to photosynthetic production of excess of oxygen.
Isolation and function of spinach leaf β-ketoacyl-[acyl-carrier-protein] synthases
Takashi Shimakata,Paul K. Stumpf +1 more
TL;DR: Reconstitution experiments with the highly purified nonassociated enzymes in fatty acids synthesis plus synthases I and II clearly demonstrate the roles of these two proteins in fatty acid synthesis.

Changes in the activity of acetyl-CoA carboxylase during rape-seed formation
E Turnham,D H Northcote +1 more
TL;DR: During the formation of rape-seeds, lipid accumulated in the cotyledons from 16 days after pollination, rising to a plateau after 28 days, preceded by a marked rise in acetyl-CoA carboxylase activity, which declined rapidly, correlating with the decline in rate of lipid formation.

Light control of fatty acid synthesis and diurnal fluctuations of fatty acid composition in leaves.
TL;DR: There was a diurnal fluctuation in the proportions of C18 unsaturated fatty acids in the lipids of developing spinach leaves, where an increase in the concentration of oleate during the day and a subsequent decline at night was observed, consistent with suggestions that this lipid is the substrate for the leaf microsomal Oleate desaturase and an intermediate in leaf glycerolipid biosynthesis.
