T cell development and the CD4-CD8 lineage decision
TL;DR: In this paper, the lineage-specific differentiation of immature CD4+CD8+ T cells into CD4 or CD8+ mature T cells is investigated, and two models were proposed initially to explain this remarkable outcome: instruction of lineage choice by initial signalling events or selection after a stochastic fate decision that limits further development to cells with coordinated TCR and co-receptor specificities.

Expression of gp40, the murine homologue of human epithelial cell adhesion molecule (Ep-CAM), by murine dendritic cells.
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the putative homophilic adhesion molecule gp40 is expressed by subpopulations of DC in selected tissues; it is proposed that gp40 expression may have functional consequences for DC.

Cutting Edge: Granulocyte-Macrophage Colony-Stimulating Factor Is the Major CD8+ T Cell-Derived Licensing Factor for Dendritic Cell Activation
Lin Min,Siti Aminah Bte Mohammad Isa,Wang Shuai,Cher Boon Piang,Fam Wee Nih,Masayo Kotaka,Christiane Ruedl +6 more
TL;DR: Signaling through the GM-CSFR in ex vivo-purified DCs upregulated the expression of costimulatory molecules more efficiently than did any tested TLR agonist and provided a positive feedback loop in the stimulation of CD8+ T cell proliferation.
Thymus-blood protein interactions are highly effective in negative selection and regulatory T cell induction.
TL;DR: The anatomy of the thymus-blood barrier, the highly efficient presentation by dendritic cells, together with the high sensitivity of thymic T cells to peptide-MHC complexes, results in blood protein Ags having a profound effect on thymi T cells.
Intercellular MHC transfer between thymic epithelial and dendritic cells
Virginie Millet,Virginie Millet,Virginie Millet,Philippe Naquet,Philippe Naquet,Philippe Naquet,Rodolphe R. Guinamard,Rodolphe R. Guinamard,Rodolphe R. Guinamard +8 more
TL;DR: This work shows the functional intercellular transfer of membrane material, including MHC molecules, occurring between epithelial cells and, in a polarized fashion, from epithelial to DC, in what might participate to the process of negative selection in the thymic medulla.

IL-12 influences intrathymic T cell development
TL;DR: It is shown that both the p35 and p40 chains of IL-12 are produced in the fetal and adult mouse thymus and that thymic stromal cells are a potential source of this cytokine.
