T cell development and the CD4-CD8 lineage decision
TL;DR: In this paper, the lineage-specific differentiation of immature CD4+CD8+ T cells into CD4 or CD8+ mature T cells is investigated, and two models were proposed initially to explain this remarkable outcome: instruction of lineage choice by initial signalling events or selection after a stochastic fate decision that limits further development to cells with coordinated TCR and co-receptor specificities.

Selection of Foxp3 + regulatory T cells specific for self antigen expressed and presented by Aire + medullary thymic epithelial cells

TL;DR: It is found that an absence of major histocompatibility class II molecules on mTECs resulted in fewer polyclonal regulatory T cells and targeting of a model antigen to Aire+ mT ECs led to the generation of specific regulatory T Cells independently of antigen transfer to dendritic cells.

Origin and development of dendritic cells
TL;DR: Dendritic cells are specialized antigen‐presenting cells and essential mediators of immunity and tolerance and this group of cells is heterogeneous in terms of cell‐surface markers, anatomic location, and function.

Ep-CAM : a human epithelial antigen is a homophilic cell-cell adhesion molecule
TL;DR: It is demonstrated here that EGP40 is an epithelium-specific intercellular adhesion molecule that resembles to some extent the molecules of the immunoglobulin superfamily of cell adhesion molecules (CAMs), although no immunoglobeulin-like repeats are present in the EGP30 molecule.
Central tolerance to tissue-specific antigens mediated by direct and indirect antigen presentation.
TL;DR: It is shown that professional BM-derived APCs acquire TSAs from Mtecs and delete autoreactive CD8 and CD4 T cells and BM- derived cells extend the range of clonal deletion by cross-presenting antigen captured from MTecs.

Autophagy in thymic epithelium shapes the T-cell repertoire and is essential for tolerance.

TL;DR: Findings indicate that autophagy focuses the MHC-II–peptide repertoire of TECs on their intracellular milieu, which notably comprises a wide array of otherwise strictly ‘tissue-specific’ self antigens and is essential for the generation of a self-tolerant T-cell repertoire.
