Abstract: Recommender systems provide users with personalized suggestions for products or services. These systems often rely on Collaborating Filtering (CF), where past transactions are analyzed in order to establish connections between users and products. The two more successful approaches to CF are latent factor models, which directly profile both users and products, and neighborhood models, which analyze similarities between products or users. In this work we introduce some innovations to both approaches. The factor and neighborhood models can now be smoothly merged, thereby building a more accurate combined model. Further accuracy improvements are achieved by extending the models to exploit both explicit and implicit feedback by the users. The methods are tested on the Netflix data. Results are better than those previously published on that dataset. In addition, we suggest a new evaluation metric, which highlights the differences among methods, based on their performance at a top-K recommendation task.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors consider a more practical scenario to perform cross-domain recommendation by transferring the item embeddings across domains, making it easier for two companies to reach a consensus (e.g., legal policy) on data sharing.

A Framework for Dataset Benchmarking and Its Application to a New Movie Rating Dataset
TL;DR: This work proposes a five-step framework to introduce and benchmark new datasets in the recommender systems domain, and illustrates the framework on a new movie rating dataset—called MovieTweetings—collected from Twitter.
SGNR: A Social Graph Neural Network Based Interactive Recommendation Scheme for E-Commerce
TL;DR: Wang et al. as mentioned in this paper proposed a Social Graph Neural Network-based interactive recommendation scheme (SGNR), which is a multiple-hop social relationships enhanced DRL framework, which can take advantage of the social network to provide more personalized recommendations and effectively alleviate the user cold start problem.

Recommender Systems Fairness Evaluation via Generalized Cross Entropy
TL;DR: It is argued that fairness in recommender systems does not necessarily imply equality, but instead it should consider a distribution of resources based on merits and needs, and a probabilistic framework based on generalized cross entropy is presented.

Implicit Stochastic Gradient Descent Method for Cross-Domain Recommendation System
TL;DR: By adopting the implicit stochastic gradient descent algorithm to optimize the objective function for prediction, multiple matrices from different domains are consolidated inside the cross-domain recommendation system (CDRS), and a conceptual framework for CDRS is designed.

TL;DR: This paper proposed a generative model for text and other collections of discrete data that generalizes or improves on several previous models including naive Bayes/unigram, mixture of unigrams, and Hof-mann's aspect model, also known as probabilistic latent semantic indexing (pLSI).
Indexing by Latent Semantic Analysis
TL;DR: A new method for automatic indexing and retrieval to take advantage of implicit higher-order structure in the association of terms with documents (“semantic structure”) in order to improve the detection of relevant documents on the basis of terms found in queries.
Toward the next generation of recommender systems: a survey of the state-of-the-art and possible extensions
TL;DR: This paper presents an overview of the field of recommender systems and describes the current generation of recommendation methods that are usually classified into the following three main categories: content-based, collaborative, and hybrid recommendation approaches.

TL;DR: This paper analyzes item-based collaborative ltering techniques and suggests that item- based algorithms provide dramatically better performance than user-based algorithms, while at the same time providing better quality than the best available userbased algorithms.
