Development of a regional solid waste management framework and its application to a prairie province in central Canada
TL;DR: In this article , the authors combine collection route optimization and landfill siting using GIS methods to design a regional waste management system in Saskatchewan, Canada, and two original performance indicators are proposed based on route optimization, namely the accessibility (ACC) and Landfill Minimization Index (LMI), which suggest that the accessibility was able to be improved by between 15.4 and 794.7%.

Transnational recycling of Australian export waste: An exploratory study
TL;DR: The authors analyzes the transnational recycling of waste from the perspective of waste exporting countries and finds that exported waste, assumed to be recycled in the Australian waste statistics, is not fully recycled by waste-importing countries.

Integrating Geographic Information System network analysis and nighttime light satellite imagery to optimize landfill regionalization on a regional level
TL;DR: In this article , a data-driven analytical framework is developed to optimize population coverage by landfills using network analysis and satellite imagery, and two scenarios, SC1 and SC2, with different truck travel times were used to simulate generation-site-disposal-site distances in three Canadian provinces.
