Effects of Sample Size and Sample Acceptance Level on the Number of Aflatoxin-Contaminated Farmers’ Stock Lots Accepted and Rejected at the Buying Point

Abstract: Sixteen different aflatoxin sampling plan designs were evaluated using the negative-binomial distribution. Evaluations were used to predict the effects of 4 different sample sizes and 4 different sample acceptance levels on the classification of farmers' stock lots according to the lot aflatoxin concentration. The 4 sample sizes evaluated were 2.27 kg (5 lb), 4.54 kg (10 lb), 9.08 kg (20 lb), and 18.16 kg (40 lb). The 4 sample acceptance levels evaluated were 5, 50, 100, and 180 ng/g. A decrease in the sample acceptance level from 180 to 5 ng/g decreased the number of lots accepted at all lot concentrations, increased the number of lots rejected at all lot concentrations, and decreased the average aflatoxin concentrations among all lots accepted

The effect of rounding on the probability distribution of regrading in the U.S. peanut industry.
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of rounding of grade percentages to the nearest whole number on the probability distribution of regrading in the peanut industry was determined, and it was shown that rounding causes graders to have to regrade an extra 4% of samples even when they follow all directions and make no mistakes.

Calculation of contaminant distribution in tree and ground nuts
TL;DR: A comparison of two different calculational methods is presented to predict the sample distribution P(C;N) of granular products at any sample size, from an experimental distribution at a single N as discussed by the authors.
Market System Model to Predict the Effects of Regulatory and Processing Practices on the Removal of Aflatoxin from Peanuts
TL;DR: A spreadsheet model was developed to predict the aflatoxin distribution among peanut lots in the market system from farmer stock marketing through storage, shelling, and blanching as mentioned in this paper, which was used to evaluate the peanut market system where farmers' stock peanuts are chemically tested for aflat toxin.
