TL;DR: In this paper, the authors select and discuss indices to explain competition among trees in an unmanaged stand in order to support decision-making in forest management, where the objective of the study was to select and select indices to understand the ecological significance of a competition index and its statistical ability to predict short-term growth.

How do Araucaria angustifolia trees grow in overstocked stands?
TL;DR: In this article , the authors evaluated growth along the stem of Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze trees competing in overstocked stands, in order to identify periods when growth and trunk shape are differentiated during the trees' lifespan.

Growth and retrospective analysis of competition in an overstocked stand of Araucaria angustifolia
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used a stand of Araucaria angustifolia as a case study to develop an understanding of tree development over the long term, which will be useful in planning silvicultural intervention and in the management of new plantations of this species.

Modelagem do espaço de crescimento para araucária
TL;DR: In this paper, a study was developed in order to model the growing space for Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze trees, and a single equation was defined to estimate the crown diameter as a function of the diameter at breast height for this species.
Climate mediates the effects of forest gaps on tree crown allometry
TL;DR: In this article , the authors used 934 paired CW and DBH of Robinia pseudoacacia trees from 38 man-made gap forest sites (GPFs) of different sizes and 40 unmanaged Forest Service Forest Service (FSFS) sites (UMFs) in three counties with different climatic conditions in the Loess Plateau to evaluate potential deviations in CW estimation from existing crown allometry models.

Tests of age-independent competition indices for individual trees in natural hardwood stands
TL;DR: Two modifications are proposed which make the index essentially independent of age, thus necessitating only one competition-grow th regression for each species on a given site and allowing comparisons between different stands, indicated that the correlation between competition and growth is optimal over a wide range of competition radii.

Distance-Dependent Competition Measures for Predicting Growth of Individual Trees
TL;DR: Des indices de competition dependants de la distance ont ete modifies pour modeliser la croissance d'arbres individuels de plantations et de peuplements homogenes de plantations au Portugal.

A comparison of competition measures for predicting growth of loblolly pine trees
TL;DR: Five families of competition indices were evaluated and compared on the basis of simple correlation with loblolly pine individual tree growth and multiple correlation with growth in the presence of other tree and stand attributes to determine the best distance-dependent indices.
